Producing our reports

From paper manufacture and printing to logistics and dispatch, we consider it important to use sustainable production processes for our reports.

The integrated BASF Report 2013 merges our financial and sustainability reporting and is mainly geared toward financial and sustainability experts. The 238-page BASF Report 2013 is also available in an interactive online version. In addition, all BASF reports can be downloaded as PDF files.

Paper production

We take sustainable production methods into account when selecting our paper stock. Our reports are printed on paper made with ingredients from BASF Paper Chemicals, including adhesives, wet-end chemicals, dyes and pigments. The environmental friendliness of our paper is confirmed by FSC certification: This Forest Stewardship Council seal guarantees that the wood we use – the main component in paper production material – comes from sustainable forestry.

We select local partners for printing our reports, as well, thus supporting the regional economy and minimizing transportation distance. With optimized printing processes, these certified firms reduce negative effects on the environment.

What does this mean, exactly?
Our partners utilize the latest technology and machinery: The computer-controlled “Autoregister” system enables the production of highly accurate printing plates, and the use of Inpress Control technology for exact color reproduction ensures consistent results and significantly reduced ink consumption. Both Autoregister and the Inpress Control technology help reduce paper overruns, which in turn reduces waste. The use of specially layered dampening rollers enables a practically alcohol and solvent-free production process.

Transporting our reports also has an impact on the environment. Our goal is to minimize emissions from transportation and dispatch through efficient logistics. We dispatch our reports in packaging made exclusively from recycled paper.
