AI-powered chatbot for plants

With the help of artificial intelligence (AI), BASF is increasing productivity and accelerating innovation. One example of this is PlantGPT. This digital assistant helps employees in BASF production plants to work faster and with greater efficiency. The application searches through thousands of documents – from training materials, safety instructions and process descriptions to event logs – and answers all relevant questions about the plant within seconds, based on real-time data. This not only makes everyday life in the control room easier, but also helps the team to rapidly familiarize new colleagues with the plant. PlantGPT was developed by the acetylene plant team in Geismar, Louisiana, in close collaboration with BASF digitalization experts in Ludwigshafen, Germany, and Madrid, Spain. BASF plans to implement the innovative AI solution in up to 35 additional plants worldwide by the end of 2025.
